I enjoyed and appreciated this course. It absorbed much of my time and led me into areas of research that made it so worthwhile. I cannot praise the efforts of writers of the U3A courses highly enough. These courses are a boon and a benefit to those of us, retired and unwilling to let our minds fall into a vacuum! I look forward to doing more of them.

What a fantastic course! I am almost finished Unit 9 having spent the last few months absorbing the amazing amount of information and knowledge it has presented to me. Needless to say, I look forward to the uninterrupted few hours I can spend several times a week going through this material. My notebook is full of summarised facts and comments - something I do as I find it helpful - such is the range of scientific information you have covered. I was surprised to find it all started with the arrival of homo sapiens and once launched into this unit, I wondered if I could persevere long enough to encounter the Hadron Collider.

First time I have done an online course, even though it was self paced I found it very informative. It is amazing how much one can learn from the knowledge of others. Great course, will try more, many thanks to Leslie.

I enjoyed it so much I have encouraged my three sisters who are all English teachers to enrol and fill in a few gaps in our education. The time lines made the ancient history so clear. I was not aware that the Muslims were leading scientists.

I enjoyed the course and definitely will be doing the following courses. The information was very thorough and easy to read and digest. The participants had limited involvement on the discussion board, including myself which was a shame but will try to do better in the next course. I would recommend the course and the course leader. Mary has been the first one to successfully encourage me to comment on the discussion board !

I have now completed Science 1, my next adventure is Science 2, the writer, Mr Leslie Dale, has done great work, thank you so much for your challenging papers. A paper I would love to see and do is Medical Science; Maybe one day.

I heartily recommend anyone who is perhaps a little puzzled in understanding where and how the sciences developed, then this is the course to take.

It is a fresh approach to study human development - different from the point of view of classical Philosophy. It gives an insight into how scientific knowledge came to support (and often change) philosophical theories.

This course was not quite what I was expecting, I thought it would deal more with the Romans in Britain. If I had one main critique it would be that the Bibliography and the wealth of websites dealing with Roma and the Romans was too much for an eight week course, they will keep me going for the rest of the year at least. The communication on the forum was good among those who used it. Having said that, I enjoyed the course and gained a better appreciation of not only the Roman world but the legacy they left us.

Just to say how I enjoyed the course on the Romans and after reading Lindsey Davis book THREE HANDS IN THE FOUNTAIN I have a better understanding of the streets of Rome- but what a gruesome book!!!

I enjoyed the course and found a lot of great websites but some specific direction to individual topics on websites would have prevented going through a lot of repetitive stuff. Thanks, tutors, for your work!
