This was an excellent basic introductory course giving a sound overall view of the subject in a reasonable length and pitched at an acceptable standard. As such, it provides a platform for further in-depth study of those aspects that I wish to explore more fully.

I particularly liked the short tables of vital statistics of the planetary bodies and I intend to combine them all in one large comprehensive table which will be most useful to me. I was able to fit this course into my life very easily by self pacing.

I found the course interesting and confirmed a lot of knowledge, in a more formal way, that I already have developed over quite a few years. The course itself was quite good and I enjoyed it. I hope to undertake The Night Sky course next.

Photos were excellent and activities in Unit 2 fascinating. I find interacting with learning material helps me master new ideas.

I found this course (my first with U3A-online) as incredibly enlightening, discovering aspects of Antarctica, e.g. environmental, penguin species, ice depth, etc. as fascinating. Antarctica is generally viewed as being a 'dead, flat, freezing area', but this course has shown what a vibrant place it is. I would love to go there!!

This course was excellent with a huge amount of detail built into it and a large number of fascinating links. This is the second of Ian's courses that I have done and although I enjoyed Continents on the move I found this one enthralling not just very interesting. As usual I ran out of time!!!

Absolutely fascinating: unfortunately perhaps it aroused a great interest in visiting the area, although basically I am against tourism here. My printer had trouble with a lack of memory so I got way behind other students but I felt the course covered many aspects of the subject extremely well, although I have little science background.

'Antarctica' has been brilliant! Informative, educational, well presented, challenging. The resource links are providing me with months of reading and accessible information. I have spent many hours side tracking into topics such lives of the first explorers and life today at the various stations in Antarctica. I clip relevant articles from newspapers, for example those on the increasing size of the hole in the ozone layer. My understanding of the frozen continent, its flora and fauna, the threats facing all aspects of the environment has increased a hundredfold.

I belong to a country U3A which only has one study group? I enjoyed doing this course as part of a study group. We swapped so much information web sites etc. It also improved our computer skills. We also enjoyed the social experience, finishing up with a white afternoon tea!
