Italian Art

Organisation:
Third Age Trust
Description:

This course looks at certain aspects of art and sculpture from northern and central Italy, generally between the years 1400 and 1600. It is not a formal history of artists and their works.

The first three Units begin with a practical exercise, which help you to appreciate the media used by painters. These are optional, though you should gain greater understanding from doing the exercises. The materials needed are not expensive and some are likely to be already in your home. These do not require any artistic skill, though some DIY experience would help.

The aspects considered are with the production, style and purpose of certain works, which have been used as examples; the factors which affected them and some of the changes which occurred during the period. It is not a comprehensive but a selective approach.

This course is suitable for beginners in the subject, though a little awareness of the period would be useful.
