What Others Say

about

  • I’ve always found U3A (especially the Australian ones!) somewhere between ‘good’ and ‘excellent’. This course is probably the best I have taken so far.

  • I wanted help with structuring and putting together some 30 years’ worth of research on my family. The course has helped me find ways to structure what I have, and - more than that! - it has helped me improve my writing. Peter is a first rate teacher: very positive, encouraging and helpful. Thanks!

  • Without the patient advice of our tutor Peter Reedman, I would have produced a time-wasting boring account of an interesting family. It has taken many long hours but, thanks to Peter, my descendants might actually read it now. Thanks also to my fellow students for their contributions - they helped. I am looking forward to another interesting and challenging U3A Online course.

  • Peter’s patience has helped me and I suspect, members of our group deal with different and difficult aspects of the course. His prompt replies and suggestions have been appreciated and always helpful. I still am not confident with Blackboard technology and Evaluation online but that won’t stop me from taking another course with U3A.

  • There is no more indecision, I am on the way to writing the kind of family history I believed possible but didn’t know how to do it. I now have a plan for writing and publishing my family group\\'s history. The exercises have been excellent in developing skills in writing and interview techniques.

  • I found this course extremely good. Surpassed my expectations. Peter is a good tutor and interaction with other people also good. It all started to make more sense as I finished Unit 5.

  • I had started a biography awhile ago but ran out of steam. This course and some of the tutor’s helpful comments have given me a new incentive to get started with writing again.

  • I always enjoy these courses. Not only are they good for the brain and, as most of us are older folk we need stimulation, you meet such a lot of nice people. The tutors are always helpful. I shall do more courses with U3A Online.

  • Yes. This was my first on line course with a leader. I found it mind opening. I liked the step by step introduction of the exercises followed by the advices and suggestions of the tutor. Reading the other students’ exercises together with the leader’s comments was most instructive.

  • A well-planned course, an excellent tutor - very enthusiastic and encouraging - and participating students. I’m sure we all got a lot from the course. No difficulties with technology or time management. It’s a pity the course didn’t run for longer as I feel we have only made a start. However, it has been a good start.

  • Peter was a helpful, patient tutor. His comments were appreciated and he spent a lot of time with his answers.

  • I have found it good to combine this course with Autobiography and Journalling which I did first. The two courses complement each other very well. Both were stimulating and enjoyable.

  • The course helped me to clarify my ideas. Peter’s comments were always constructive and helpful. I think I will go on to produce a modest volume for family consumption, which I would not have contemplated without this course.

  • The course gave practical advice about organising oneself to work. Our tutor was always on the ball quick with helpful criticism and encouragement. I had not worked with a group before and found their encouragement confidence building and very rewarding. Full marks

  • I really enjoy writing, (Creative Writing, U3A) playing the piano (classical), painting (watercolour) and living. Distance and the ‘wet’ seasons were a problem but U3A and technology have given me contact with the ‘outside world’.

  • I began writing my family history about 10 years ago, and became bogged down - too much data. This course opened the door for me again. I intend to self-publish as it is intended for family and friends, but am interested in ‘publishing’ in the future.

  • Considering the cost of the course U3A is really providing a wonderful resource for people wishing to pursue and develop a wide range of interests. Congratulations!!

  • The course was excellent. The material was well presented and easy to understand. The tutors were very professional and thorough. Both Peter and Brenda gave extensive replies which must have taken a lot of time and certainly commitment. I found the course useful for what I want to do.

  • I very much enjoyed the course and it gave me a new interest. Peter and Brenda really made the course worthwhile for me. Their expert feedback and guidance was invaluable and without it the course would not have achieved much for me.

  • I would like to extend my thanks to you both, the course has taught me that researching the family history is one thing, writing it is another. I have written the first six pages of my family history.

  • Thanks to Brenda and yourself for all the suggestions and help during the course, best U3A course I have been on.

  • Good materials. Excellent feedback and encouragement.

  • It was interesting to be part of a group with participants from the other side of the world. I think I would have liked to have had more interaction with them but that was probably my fault for not responding to their materials enough. Other members of my local U3A are interested in my experiences.

  • Very inspirational and interesting background reading material to keep me well occupied for quite some time! I enjoyed seeing what other students were choosing to write about and their formats- especially impressed that someone went into verse!

  • I really enjoyed the course. Both Course Leaders were available for advice and guidance - without their encouragement I probably would have put off writing my family history forever. I can’t thank them and the course enough. This course had me totally involved - not wanting to leave the computer to get on with daily chores! I have learnt so much.

  • This course had me totally involved - not wanting to leave the computer to get on with daily chores! I have learnt so much.

  • I really enjoyed this course. Both Course Leaders were available for advice and guidance - without their encouragement I probably would have put off writing my family history for ever.

  • There is something that I hear constantly. 'Oh, I wish that I had asked my mother/father while they were alive..........' And I often find people who say to me that they would very much like to do what I am doing but............and who might be encouraged to actually do it, by doing a course through the U3A.

  • This is not a three year degree. It therefore has limitations on what it wants to achieve. And again, from that point of view, I think it has been successful.

  • You have a number of people who have gone into it with great gusto and have benefited much from the course.

  • I found the help from the tutor very helpful and inspired me to go ahead with this project.

  • Peter and Brenda were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Thanks again Peter for your help I have started writing my story.

  • The first thing that I want to say is that the course has been useful to me and therefore, from my point of view, it has been successful as it is.
